Atlanta in Da House?

Russo is reporting that Atlanta GM Don Waddell and Risebrough have been seen chatting amongst themselves at least once recently out on the west coast.

That's interesting.

Looks like the Thrashers could take on Gaborik's salary in its entirety without giving up a dime from their current cap situation.

But could this also be a side move, to set up a Gaborik move? I'm not even sure how that would work out, to be honest with you.

Other than Kovalchuk (whom I think you can rest assured wouldn't be part of a deal for Gaborik as long as they have all that cap space), it's not really a very interesting roster. Maybe the Thrashers are offering up 1st round draft picks?

I am a little intrigued by Kari Lehtonen, which would give us an interesting all-Finn goaltending duo. But then you'd think Harding would be part of the trade as well.

I'm going to try really hard not to get into the rumor mongering, but this is the first tangible nugget of any activity along the "trade Gaby" front, other than his improving health, that we've had all season.

Don't get your hopes TOO high on Lehtonen. I'm pretty sure the team wants to keep him. However, Pavelec, our spare baby goalie, could be a nice fit in Minny, especially since, you know, y'all know how to play D. Which clearly the Thrashers don't. :) And rumour is Kovy's on the block as well, but you know how rumours go :)

Supposedly Erik Christensen's on the block too. You know him as part of the Hossa package. Reportedly he's a center.

Reportedly he's a hockey player too, but I haven't seen much evidence of that lately. Although, let's be honest, I can say that about most every Thrasher........

Hehe... I was going to say something like that too. My apologies for us sending him to you. :(

Colby working out OK though?

Colby's aiight. I mean it's not like he's got Sid to play with, and no matter how awesome Kovy is, he doesn't have nearly the support as Sid. Crush isn't bad either, he's just hurt more often than not. I really loved Army and Crush in black and gold though. :( I'm so sad they had to leave the 'Burgh. And come to Atlanta. Those poor boys.

Colby's an energy guy anyway... he'll muck and grind, throw a big hit and occasionally drop the gloves. That's his role and he's good at it.

I always thought Crusher had nice potential but he wasn't being used right in Pittsburgh, and this was before Sid and Geno. On the other hand, maybe he wasn't being used the way I thought he should have been because he wasn't capable of it. Dude's awesome in shootouts though.

So you've got that going for you, which, you know, is nice...

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess you haven't watched a lot of Thrashers hockey games.

We get to the shootout maybe once every other month. So, yeah there's that, but it tends to be against the Pens, and the only way Crush'll surprise Flower or Sabou is to pick the puck up and THROW it at them. :)

I must admit, no, I have not watched many Thrashers games this year.. but that's not the point. When you DO get there, Crusher should be good.. :)

What's the vibe down there regarding Kovalchuk? You guys want to hang onto him or trade him for a king's ransom? Does he want out?

Another Pens fan told me we should trade Staal and Whitney for Kovalchuk. Thoughts?
