Stars of the night
--Ray Whitney, three points (one goal) in Carolina's 5-4 shootout win over Minnesota, snapping a 14-game losing streak.
--Johan Hedberg, 34 saves to help Atlanta beat Edmonton, 3-2.
Off the schneid
Slava Kozlov scored his first goal of the season for the Thrashers and it proved to be the game-winner. It's been a rough-go for the Russian winger, who netted 26 goals and 76 points last season. Kozlov also had an assist and now has eight points on the season.
Wasting no (over)time
After erasing a 3-1 deficit and forcing overtime, Chicago didn't take long to send San Jose packing, as Brent Seabrook scored just 41 seconds into the extra frame for his second goal of the season - both in overtime - and a 4-3 Blackhawks victory. Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith had two assists for Chicago and Jason Demers scored his first NHL goal and added an assist for San Jose.
Non-3 Stars Selection of the night
Toews or Demers, take your pick. Neither was one of the three stars. Joe Thornton (one assist) was third, Niklas Hjalmarsson was second (no clue why; no points, minus-1, 1 blocked shot, 2 hits) and Seabrook was No. 1.
