Star of the night
Troy Brouwer, 1 goal (GWG), 2 assists in Chicago's 4-1 win over the Kings. Good win over the injury-depleted Pens a few days ago for LA, but two lackluster performances after that, including this one against a full-strength Chicago team. Only 18 shots, including TWO in the third period, on Cristobal Huet.
Happy return
Chicago captain Jonathan Toews, making his return after missing six games, scored a power play goal to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead in the third period. Toews doubles as the Non-Three Stars Selection of the night, though Patrick Sharp (2 assists, 4 SOG) had a good candidacy. Toews gets it because it was kind of a pretty goal. No love from the hometown voters, who made John Madden (#3, 1 goal), Duncan Keith (2 assists, #2) and Brouwer (#1) the 3 Stars.
Quote of the night
"He's not very vocal. He just leads by the way he plays, by example. It's contagious. If we just follow along and compete as hard as he does, everybody will be all right."
Madden, talking about Toews
Marquee matchup
Tuesday, Nov. 10 (6 games)
How about Nashville (7-7-1) at San Jose (12-4-2), 10:30 p.m. ET? Mainly to see if Nashville can duplicate its trick before; the Preds beat the Kings 3-1 after LA beat the Penguins, 5-2. The Sharks are coming off a 5-0 win over Pittsburgh.
